1 lb dried beans, soaked overnight
1 cup of barley or other whole grain, soaked with the beans
1/2 - 1 lb bacon
salt (1 tsp - 1 tbsp)

Put the beans and grain into a pot or crockpot, add the salt, and put the bacon on top.  Cover with an inch or two of water (depending on how thick you want the soup to be).

Stovetop:  Bring to a boil and then slow cook (several hours at least) on low heat.

Crock pot: Cook on low for 12 - 18 hours.

Mash up the beans and bacon a little before serving.
